V for Vendetta is a 2005 dystopian political action film directed by James McTeigue and written by the Wachowskis. V for Vendetta initiates the Gunpowder Plot as V’s historical influence, according to his choice of timing, language, and appearance.

The film is also clear in defining V as the expression of an idea rather than an individual through V’s conversation and by representing him without a past, identity, or face.

According to the official website, “V’s use of the Guy Fawkes mask and persona roles as both practical and representative elements of the story. He wears the mask to hide his physical scars, and in hiding his identity – he becomes the idea itself.”
